How Family Therapy works here.

Family therapy is for the household — not just whichever family member has been identified as the one needing help. Our family clinicians work systemically, which means treating the patterns of how people are connected to each other, not just the individuals.

This is particularly useful for families navigating a member’s depression, an adolescent’s mental health, generational dynamics that haven’t been said out loud, and cultural context that off-the-shelf therapy frameworks tend to miss.

What a session looks like

The practical shape of the work.

Sessions usually run 60–80 minutes and may include various combinations of family members across the work. The clinician keeps a sense of the whole system even when only some members are in the room. Sessions can be in-person or telehealth — many families find telehealth particularly useful when members live in different parts of LA or out of state.

Several of our clinicians work in languages other than English — please ask when you call.

Intake

We talk about who is in the household, what is shifting, and who needs to be in the room.

First session

Various family members join, depending on the work. The clinician keeps a sense of the whole system even when only some members are present.

Ongoing

We adjust who is in the room as the work changes — including, sometimes, briefly involving extended family.
